When I teach sessions on the why and how of going to confession, I often talk about the real ‘freedom’ that the sacrament offers. We underestimate the burden that guilt and shame bring to our heart and mind. God can’t stand seeing us weighed down…so Jesus’ main message was often about God’s forgiveness.
This Thursday evening, at 7:00 PM, we will have 8 priests here to offer the Sacrament of Reconciliation…to help you allow God to “set you free.” It is a new year…and in this sacrament, God gives us a new opportunity to be freed from the past and the grace to change sinful habits.
Logistics: We will start in the church as usual with a communal prayer service on God’s Mercy and then move to the various areas for confessions.
To provide additional safety precautions and to follow COVID restrictions, the priest confessors will each be in a separate room (not in the usual open space of the church). In addition to the regular confessional and St. Clare Chapel, we have four new rooms in the wing by the restrooms that will be set up with a prayerful environment. This will allow ample spacing between the priest and penitents while offering privacy. The rooms are well ventilated with constant air circulation.
Let God give you and your family a Christmas gift of freedom, joy, peace, and grace through this powerful sacrament.
