The wonderful success of Oktoberfest last weekend demonstrates the great generosity of our parishioners and the bountiful graces from God. Our Poor Clare Nuns pray daily for us but especially for our Oktoberfest success and favorable weather…and once again we witnessed the power of their prayers! Their spiritual ‘boost’ and the hard work of so many parishioners came together beautifully! I was inspired to see so many new parishioners stepping in to get involved and some parishioners taking new leadership roles.
The whole event continues to be a blessing to the larger community as we give witness to Gospel hospitality! We are still tallying receipts before we will have a final profit figure to share with you. The Oktoberfest proceeds are a great blessing to our Capital Development Fund for our church building. As always, there are an unlimited number of people to thank. Our chairperson Tom Knaust led the ‘core team’ that includes about 50 persons leading hundreds of volunteers. Our very generous set-up and clean-up crew were there around the clock from Friday through Sunday! The 5K run, with its great team, saw another successful year!
On another note… This week is our annual Priest Convocation, held in downtown St. Louis. This is a week of prayer and continuing formation with our bishop and all priests of our diocese. Our topic this year is learning about updates in medical/end-of-life moral issues and how we pastors can help our parishioners know how our Catholic faith approaches these difficult areas. Thank you for your prayerful support of us priests, something for which I am particularly grateful!
