Next Sunday, June 2, the same Spirit of Pentecost will be with us at our feast of Corpus Christi (Body and Blood of Christ) as we prayerfully walk one mile from church to our old church (School Chapel).
Logistics
The procession will flow out of the 10:30 Mass. You can either process with us or meet us in front of the old church on Third and Oak Street at 11:40. Plan to carve out an hour (11:45 - 12:45) to join us for this very special procession down Lincoln Avenue in O’Fallon to our school chapel for Benediction. For those not able to do the walk, you can meet us at the chapel for Benediction. A bus will be available to bring us back to Church.
Why this tradition? Begun in the 13th Century, as we solemnly process the Eucharist from inside to outside, it helps us move from an “insider mentality” to an awareness that Christ is for everyone. The Eucharistic procession helps us recognize who we are as a Catholic community and points us toward solidarity with others. Those who recognize Jesus in the sacred Host, recognize Him in their suffering brothers and sisters. Walking with Jesus in this procession, we can see ourselves as members of His Body, but we can also look at the world through the loving eyes of Jesus Christ. This is a feast of who we ARE.
Many of our youth will participate as canopy bearers, flower girls, altar servers, among other roles. During the procession, we will pray litanies and sing hymns pertaining to the Eucharist. Families are encouraged to walk and pray together. Wagons and strollers are most welcomed for our youngest parishioners. Thanks for loving the traditions of our Catholic Faith and joining us on this special day!
Thanks to all that participated in our first Eucharistic Consecration “33 Days to Eucharistic Glory”. The Consecration Prayer will take place after the Procession. Consecrate yourselves to the Lord...that He may bestow upon you a blessing this day Exodus 32:29
he Peace of the Holy Spirit be with you!
