This is such an exciting time for us as we welcome a new bishop for our Diocese of Belleville!
This Wednesday, July 22, Bishop-elect McGovern will be ordained and installed as the ninth bishop of Belleville at the Cathedral of St. Peter. Due to limited seating because of the pandemic, the Mass of Ordination and Installation will be broadcast at 2 p.m. live on EWTN or
ewtn.com (click on live view). More information can be found at
www.diobelle.org/ main-rotator/1396.
The United States Apostolic Nuncio to Pope Francis, who lives in Washington D.C., will be the main consecrator along with Cardinal Cupich from Chicago. Many other bishops and priests from around the country will also be here for this significant day. It will be very worth watching the Mass as it has lots of interesting historic and spiritual elements to it.
For myself, this is a day of great hope and encouragement as a priest. I have spoken with and met Bishop McGovern a few times and we were in seminary together at Mundelein. I am filled with joy at his very pastoral style and genuine personality. He is a “people person” that comes from being raised in a large family and having served as a pastor in various parishes for his 25 years as a priest. I look forward to our parish meeting him when he makes a pastoral visit here this fall and will celebrate one of our weekend Masses.
Thank you for all your support to priests and bishops. Your faithfulness nourishes my vocation…I thank God for you!
