A good number of parishioners tell me that they have really “good intentions” to start coming to Eucharistic Adoration…but just can’t seem to “find the time.” It definitely takes a conscience choice and good planning to make prayer happen on a consistent basis.
I know you hear me bring up Adoration a lot in my preaching and adult ed sessions. That’s because I know from experience how good it is for one’s heart, mind, and soul. I am especially amazed by the stories I hear from our parishioners who DO make the time for Adoration and share with me such phrases as ---
“It is the most peaceful hour of my week.”
“I never knew how powerful it would be to sit in silence with God.”
“It took a few times to get used to the silence, but now I crave it.”
For those of you who want a better and deeper prayer life, I want to extend a special encouragement to simply start putting time for Adoration on your calendar. Try committing to 3 Tuesday nights in a row…or two a month between 6 - 7 p.m. Of course, we also have Adoration on the first Sunday/Monday of every month for 24 hours. As you think about what you want to do differently for Lent, I encourage you to seriously try a new commitment to this most powerful form of prayer time in the very Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. Look at your calendar for February and March and simply carve out time slots for God…and be still.
