While the song is popular for caroling, it is actually based on an ancient Catholic tradition of celebrating the Miracle of Christ’s Birth for 12 days – Christmas Day until Epiphany (January 6). These are truly holy days to remind us that Christmas actually just begins on December 25 and lasts for these two weeks.
After all the festivities, gift giving, and traveling are over, take time during these 12 Days to sit quietly in front of your Manger scene or the one here at church, and let yourself be wrapped in God’s Love for you. We must never tire of being ‘shocked’ and amazed that God, the Creator of the Universe, became a human...and wants to get very intimate with your own humanity...with all of our shortcomings and unworthiness.
I want to thank each of you for the ways you show me God’s Love. Seeing the crowds at Christmas reminds me of how much people long for God in their life. And it is a joy to serve you and the Church as your pastor. Thanks also to all of you who sent me cards and gifts which I so appreciate.
May the Light and Peace of Jesus possess your heart and mind during these holy Twelve Days of Christmas.

Continuing Education Week for me – from January 6-13, I will be attending a week of prayer and scripture study with scholars Scott Hahn, John Bergsma and Jeff Morrow at the Napa Institute. I trust that the Holy Spirit will do great things this week so I can be enriched in my preaching and service to you as pastor.
