This past week, our parish hosted our annual Vacation Bible School for the children. I am inspired by how many of our youth helped in leadership roles for the younger children (K5th grade). Our Faith Formation Director, Jane Dotson, always does a great job keeping our youth involved and training them to be leaders in sharing their own faith. Two things come to mind for all of us to remember and practice:
Children love bible stories - Parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles have a privilege and responsibility to make time to read bible stories to our children and listen to their questions and insights. Particularly stories of Jesus’ miracles and care for the poor inspire the children to become better disciples themselves.
Keeping our youth involved – We work hard here at St. Clare to always encourage the youth (5th-12th grades) to get involved in ministries, both at Mass and in our outreach services. Thanks to all parents who challenge their young people to sign up for ministries and help transport them to activities to stay involved. Statistics prove that kids who stay active in their parish and see their parents involved in parish ministries have a much higher rate of ‘remaining Catholic’ in their adult years.
Thanks to all our parents and grandparents who make the extra effort to model and teach their children about staying close to Jesus by staying close to their parish and the sacraments.
