This past Tuesday night, the group of us who were on the recent mission trip to our Sister Parish in Guatemala, presented photos and stories of all the great things our financial support and prayers are accomplishing there. A few highlights are:
1. Scholarship Students – we are able to sponsor 30 students this year, helping young people in need finish their high school years. One great ‘success story’ is Juan Jose, who went on to become an attorney and stayed in the area helping others in need. (see photo)
2. Parish Hall – our funds helped convert an abandoned building into 4 large parish meeting rooms and a large outdoor patio courtyard for parish socials.
3. New schooling project – one really poor area had no access to a school so we helped fund a ‘start-up’ school for K-8th grade.
4. Healthcare – our funds paid for ‘backpack kits’ of preventative healthcare items, which trained parishioners take out to the poor villages and teach them about such things as blood sugars, heart issues, and healthy diet.
Your monthly donations to our Guatemala Fund (envelope/online) are truly making a big difference in many lives. Thank you!
