This week on Friday, November 1 we celebrate one of my favorite Catholic Holy Days, All Saints Day. This feast is a celebration of one of our core Catholic doctrines, the “Communion of Saints.” This is our belief that there is an intimate bond between the saints in Heaven and us “potential saints” here on Earth.
While we rarely think of ourselves as saints, we are united with the Blessed Ones in Heaven by our shared baptism and belief in Jesus Christ. This doctrine explains why we also believe that we can and should communicate with the saints in Heaven and why we ask them to pray for us, as they now share in the beatific vision of God in eternal life.
Mass Schedule for All Saints Day, Friday, November 1 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
Next Saturday night, November 2 “Feast of All Souls’ Day”, we will have a reception after the 5:00 Mass in the Fellowship Hall and Evening Prayer in the church at 7:00 p.m. Please join us for a beautiful candlelight service as the names of our deceased loved ones and parishioners who have died in the last year are read. You will also find a large book near the baptismal font at the entrance to the St. Clare Chapel that contains the names of any loved one who have died in the last twelve months. We will remember them all in Masses during November.
God’s Peace to all you HOLY men and women, Fr. Jim Deiters
