This weekend, we begin a ‘new year’ with the season of Advent, which gives us the opportunity to think about our ‘discipleship successes’ of the past year and what we want to do differently with our faith and prayer life for the new year.
Use this week to set some “new year” personal goals; and for those who are raising children in the Catholic faith, set new goals for your family life. Some examples to consider for ‘goal setting’ are:
Come to Mass early for the Rosary or stay after Mass for quiet time in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel (room behind the Altar where the Tabernacle is).
After evening dinner, pray a decade of the Rosary or read and discuss ahead of time the upcoming scriptures for the next Sunday.
Once a week, watch a video or movie about the life of a saint.
Volunteer at our local food pantry or soup kitchen once a month.
Visit or write a card to people on our parish prayer list published in the bulletin.
Change your schedule to come to Mass on a weekday once a week.
While the secular world celebrates a new year on 1January, our season of Advent is our start of a new liturgical year. God always gives us new opportunities to ‘start over,’ ‘begin anew,’ and ‘rethink’ our priorities. Spend some time in prayer, asking Jesus what his dreams and goals are for you.
