Honoring Mary the Mother of God… as our Mother too!
Traditionally the month of May is a special time to honor our spiritual Mother, the Virgin Mary, whom Jesus gave to us as our Mother as He died on the Cross. This is the month for you to keep alive our wonderful tradition of setting up a special Marian shrine in one’s home with a statue or painting of Mary surrounded with flowers and candles in a prominent place for May.
This is also a month for parents and grandparents to remember to include Marian devotions in your home, such as saying a Hail Mary before bed with the children and/or praying a decade of the Rosary together after dinner. Maybe learn a new Marian prayer such as the “Memorare.”(see prayer below)
For ‘converts’ to Catholicism and long-time Catholics, if you are still learning about Marian devotions, take time to read about Mary from the Catechism or go to our link for “Word On Fire” (Bishop Robert Barron) resources we purchased and offer for our parishioners to learn more about Mary’s role in our faith. One main reason we honor Mary is because of her being such a model disciple of Jesus. She teaches us about being a steward of our life for God.
Here at the parish, take time to visit and pray at our shrine to Mary and see her crown of fresh flowers for this month. And be sure to join us for our “parking lot Rosary” each Monday night at 6:00.
Mary, Queen of Peace, pray for us! Fr. Jim Deiters
THE MEMORARE Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thine intercession was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my mother; to thee do I come before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.
